Diminutive verbs in Modern Greek: (Bachelor thesis)

The present study was produced as part of my undergraduate studies and the subject is a theoretical and didactic approach of diminutives verbs in Modern Greek. The work consists of two parts, theoretical and empirical. In the first part, the theoretical, is presented the meaning of the word diminutive, are distinguished the categories of diminutive and described its nature (morphological, semantic, phonological). Additionally, are presented some general elements of diminutive verbs and analyzed the main verbal diminutive morphemes. In the second part, the empirical, is presented the methodology which was followed during the research and presented its results (the meanings of diminutive morphemes and diminutive verbs). Also in the same place are categorized the diminutive verbal morphemes in terms of their importance and is proposed a didactic approach of diminutive verbs. Finally expressed the findings in which I arrived at by my involvement with this issue. From elaboration (theoretical and research) of the data, some of the findings which are resulted are the following: in terms of importance the diminutive can have a literal or metaphorical meaning. Some diminutive morphemes may carry more than one meaning and can be categorized by the meaning they attach to the base in six categories. The diminutive verbal morphemes have characteristics of both derivation and composition so they cannot be parted in any of these two procedures but placed somewhere between them. The teaching of diminutive verbs should be based on certain criteria and in accordance with the model proposed should be based on a text approach, to promote discovery learning and collaboration
