Relational aggression in friendship networks, in dyadic relationships, emotional regulation and empathy in adolescents (Bachelor thesis)

Τζατζανά, Ιωάννα/ Tzatzana, Ioanna

Despite the fact that there has been a lot of research investigating the relationship between emotional regulation and relational aggression, as well as between empathy and relational aggression, however these studies are few and their findings seem to be rather ambiguous. Some studies confirmed the links between those variables, but others failed to do so thus leading to further investigation. As a matter of fact, the studies examining the association of these three variables in the case of relational aggression in friendship networks and dyadic friendships, are fewer, leading to the need of further investigation. The current study showed that cognitive empathy was negatively associated with reactive and proactive aggression in friendship networks and dyadic relationships. Emotional empathy did not show any association with relational aggression, but appeared to be positively related to the cognitive reappraisal, dimension of emotional regulation. The regulation of emotions did not seem to be correlated to cognitive empathy nor relational aggression in both functions (proactive and reactive). The current study also revealed that relational aggression in friendship networks is highly positively associated with relational aggression in dyadic friendships
