Education of bilingual students: teachers' views on the reception classes that operated in the region of Xanthi during the school year 2016-2017 (Master thesis)

Reception Classes are an educational institution targeting non-native students who do not have sufficient knowledge of the Greek language. This research studies and presents the views of teachers on the Reception Classes that operated in the region of Xanthi, during the school year 2016-2017. In particular, it studies the views of teachers, in the light of five research questions: a) The degree of contribution of the Reception Classes to the academic and social development of the students b) The recruitment of teachers of the Reception Classes c) Teacher Training d) The pedagogical and educational materials provided to teachers e) The professional satisfaction of teachers. The conclusions of the research highlight important issues. Among these it is pointed out that most teachers believe that the Reception Classes contribute to the social and academic development of the students. Furthermore, it is evident that there is a need for teacher training, a need for more effective pedagogical and educational materials, and a need for change, regarding the recruitment of teachers of the Reception Classes. Finally, teachers state various degrees of professional satisfaction, according to a number of factors
