Parents’ conceptions of mathematics and the practices they adopt in helping their children with it are among the most important parameters influencing the degree and the manner of their involvement with their pupils’ mathematical progress. The paper focuses on the factors affecting parental involvement in mathematics, namely parent gender, age of the child, social-economical level of the family, parents’ anxiety for mathematics and their attitude to it. Also, the practices adopted by parents during their involvement with their child's mathematics at home. A questionnaire constructed for the purposes of the study was answered by 120 parents. The analysis of the data showed that the parent gender, the child's age and gender as well as the parent’s conception of mathematics strongly influence parental involvement with mathematics. Furthermore, the latter is carried out primarily through the monitoring of pupils’ work in mathematics, by providing appropriate place for studying, by involving them with everyday activities that facilitate mathematical learning and by being in contact with the teacher
