The all-day primary school in Greece and Cyprus: a comparative approach (Bachelor thesis)

The theoretical and comparative approach of the All-Day Primary School in Greece and Cyprus is the subject of this study, paying particular attention to the characteristics of the All-Day Primary Schools and the comparison of both countries’ education systems. The aim of this study is to examine the evolution and functioning of the institution, taking into account the educational and socio-cultural characteristics. The literature review, which took place and focused on the collection of Greek-language and foreign-language texts, is the main way to establish this task. The definition of education and the education system contributes to the reflection of the prevalent situation in today’s Greece of economic, humanitarian and social crisis. Accordingly, it is possible to identify certain elements of the Cypriot society. The presentation and analysis of the All-Day Primary School is placed within these conditions, as an innovative element in education, which seeks to meet the students’ needs. The basic features of the All-Day Primary School resulted from comparing the way of functioning of the institution in both countries. The main points, according to which the comparison is made, are the students’ registration, the organization and composition of the classes, the curriculum and timetable, the teaching approaches, the staff, the building structure and logistics equipment, as well as feeding. Through comparing the All-Day Primary School in Greece and Cyprus, we are shown that this institution is very similar in both countries, although each country has its own particularities
