This study investigates whether an attentional bias task, Dot Probe, can be used as an alternative to a well-known multiple choice questionnaire for measuring statistics anxiety in a sample of pre-service teachers. In this context, the study also examines the relationship between the scores obtained from the new task and pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards statistics, mathematics achievement, mathematical and statistical background and cognitive reflection. The results are discussed on the basis of their potential use in the development of valid and reliable tools for measuring statistics anxiety in tertiary education
