Pomaks belong to a particular cultural group that lives mainly in the mountainous areas of the prefectures of Xanthi, Rodopi and Evros. There are Pomak villages close to the boundaries of Greece and Bulgaria. The total population of Pomaks is difficult to be calculated because Pomaks live also in the big cities of Thrace. This work attempts to collect information about the education and every-day lives of Pomak women of the prefecture of Xanthi. The research procedure used the method of participant observation. Also twelve interviews were conducted with women from 19 till 70 years old in the villages of Alma, Mantaina and Oasi of the prefecture of Xanthi. The educational level of women steadily increases over the last decades. The cultural standards of the Pomak family, namely the pomak language, the traditional food, values and institutions like family and religion are Kept strong. Women keep alive the cultural diversity of their villages and inherit it to the new generations
